Colts Saints Superbowl 44 Game Time – How can Peyton Manning the Colts QB face his hometown Saints?
February 7, 2010 by Rich Webb · 2 Comments

The Mannings have a royalty with the New Orleans. It started since QB Papa Archie played for the Saints during the ‘70s. Peyton is the NFL’s only four-time MVP and his brother Eli are eyeing for their first Super Bowl championship as a step for the recovery from the devastation made by Hurricane Katrina. The Mannings have played a big part of its recovery but now Peyton is standing in the team’s way.
On the other hand, will the Saints be able to maintain QB Drew Brees thru out the game to create havoc?
A great pass rush is the best way to divert an offense play with a high note. Indy’s bookend DEs Robert Mathis and Dwight Freeney are some of the best tandem of QB artists in the league. Saints RT Jonathan Stinchcomb and LT Jermon Bushrod and are going to be popular to the press for interviews.
Which of the two coaches has the edge?
Jim Caldwell Colts rookie head coach was the right-hand man of Tony Dungy’s in Indy for seven seasons and won Super Bowl XLI. He can be the third rookie coach to win a Super Bowl, to join Don McCafferty (Colts, Super Bowl V) and George Seifert (49ers, Super Bowl XXIV). Sean Payton the Saints coach was part of the Giants’ staff when the Ravens lost in the Super Bowl XXXV and were taught by Bill Parcells with the Cowboys from 2003-05. He’ll be helped by Gregg Williams defensive coordinator, who was in the Titans team during Super Bowl XXXIV where they lost to the Rams, to get the better off Manning.
The Colts still have two weeks to defend themselves. They should do so. They could have gone for a historical 19-0 season in NFL history, that will burry the ’72 Dolphins (17-0) to rest. But they pulled Manning and other key players in the last part of the third quarter while the score was still 15-10 lead in Week 16 against the Jets. The Jets were able to get the lead and win but the Indy nailed it in for its Week 17 loss to the Bills. Caldwell and GM Bill Polian should explain their contention that it is not important to go undefeated.
QB Peyton Manning of the Colts has one Super Bowl already, so he has nothing to worry about being an all-time great who has no Super Bowl ring, but if he does win a second Super Bowl, he will only be second to Tom Brady has three rings. Manning is likely to get the NFL passing records when he retires.
