Longest Field Goal Kick In NFL

November 2, 2009 by Sherry Ingram

ola_kimrin_DavidMaxwell3The longest field goal kick in NFL history is 65 yards made by Ola Kimrin of the Denver Broncos they won the game with a score of 31-0 against the Seattle Seahaws in August 29, 2002 during a preseason game.  During the early days of football, kicking was emphasized highly.

In 1883 the scoring system was used and field goals were given 5 points while touchdowns and conversions scored 3 each.  In 1897, touchdown was given 5 points and the conversion was down to 1 point.  In 1904 the field goal was 4 points changed to the modern 3 points in 1909.  The touchdown was altered to 6 points in 1912 in American football but Canada did not change this until 1956.  The conversion was spotted in the 3-yard line in 1924.  In 1928 it was adjusted to the 5-yard line and in 1929 it was again adjusted to the 2-yard line.  Finally, in 1968 it is back to the 3-yard line.
