The Saints Rode the Colts

February 12, 2010 by Rich Webb · Leave a Comment

Super Bowl XLIV is finished; all that is left is the mopping up operation and hangovers. You are most probably doing some of it right now. You can either celebrate with the New York Giants on the Wild Card against the undefeated, until Sunday, New England Patriots or you will be cursing out Bill Belichick and Tom Brady for dropping a perfect season and probably beginning a new curse in New England sports.

A composed and classy Drew Brees projected a look of a Champion on Super Bowl Monday after an upset win by the New Orleans Saints against Indianapolis Colts.

Sean Payton, with out using his visor sported a happy and dazed look. He sported a necklace of single strand made of gold beads, and wore a crumpled shirt with blue jeans. He had a cup of coffee in his hand going into the news conference for only a short time holding the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

He said that the trophy was in his bed last night that prompted media laughter. Payton said he rolled over the trophy several times and said there is nothing compared to it.

Payton said, sometime almost midnight after the Saints’ won 31-17, family members of the Lombardi and Joe Lombardi the quarterback coach of the Saints and his father, Vince Jr. posed with the trophy that is named after the Hall of Fame coaching legend.

This is the second Super Bowl victory of Payton, his first is being the head coach. He worked as offensive coordinator in the New York Giants NFC champions last 2000, but they lost 34-7 to the Baltimore Ravens during Super Bowl XXXV.

Payton said that to be part of a team by being a coach and with Drew Brees as part of the players, he is much honored. He does not take opportunities lightly every time. He felt so fortunate, blessed and also humbled by the situation.

Talking about franchise, the New England Patriots has won back-to-back Super Bowls since the start of the new millennium.

Since starting Feb. 28, 1983, the last episode of CBS’ M*A*S*H, that averaged around 106 million viewers as most-watched show in U.S. TV’s. Last Sunday’s, Super Bowl XLIV New Orleans Saints’ victory on CBS set a new record of 106.5 million.

Everything is green and go for this season’s NFL ratings, even the Washington, D.C., blizzard where the Super Bowl pulled a high rating of 56% than in Indianapolis of only 54.2%.

Other factors that affected this seasons rating included the return of Brett Favre, as Minnesota Vikings ratings leaped and the Indianapolis Colts and Saints being undefeated until later part of the season and the NFL’s top-drawing team, Dallas Cowboys won their first playoff victory in 13 seasons.

It’s Game Time for Superbowl 44 Saints vs Colts

February 7, 2010 by Rich Webb · Leave a Comment

In the end, it wasn’t the Giants. It wasn’t the Patriots. And it wasn’t the Cowboys either. Instead, the Saints and the Colts will be squaring off against each other in Superbowl 44. It wasn’t always this clear, but for the first time in a while, it’s the two top seed teams for this year’s Superbowl. That’s only happened eight times since 1975 and and not once since 1993 when the Cowboys and the Bills clashed in Georgia.

So can we expect to see an incredible Superbowl Sunday? You better believe it! While it may not be quite the same as the last classic, when the Patriots were taken down by the Giants in the closest Superbowl in history, it should be a really great game. Think Yankees vs. Red Sox, Ohio vs. Michigan and you’ll understand what we can expect in a few weeks.

The question is of course what this will mean. Are these really the top two teams in the NFL or did they just get lucky? Don’t forget that the two teams were the top seeds within their divisions, not necessarily the tops in the NFL.

I’m not going to make predictions about who is going to win in a few weeks, but I will say this: The Saints currently hold the number one scoring position and the highest point differential in professional football. That’s gotta count for something.

Then again, let’s take another look at the Vikings. I have two words for you my friend: Brett Favre. The most career touchdown passes, the most passing yards, the most career pass completions. The list goes on and on. This guy is a superstar of the superstars.

But will one superstar be enough to overcome the dominance of the Saints? Let’s take a look at the other all-American sport, baseball and we may find our answer. A-Rod spent years with the Yanks before he finally played a World Series. He blew it against the Sox, letting them have their first victory in 86 years (in all fairness, it wasn’t just his fault, but his poor production sure didn’t help). So if history is any guide, just having a superstar may not be enough for the win in Superbowl 44. However, it does mean it’s gonna be a really cool game to watch. Grab some beer and get some nachos ready. February 7, 2010 is coming soon. It’s football time!

Colts Saints Superbowl 44 Game Time – How can Peyton Manning the Colts QB face his hometown Saints?

February 7, 2010 by Rich Webb · 2 Comments

The Mannings have a royalty with the New Orleans. It started since QB Papa Archie played for the Saints during the ‘70s. Peyton is the NFL’s only four-time MVP and his brother Eli are eyeing for their first Super Bowl championship as a step for the recovery from the devastation made by Hurricane Katrina. The Mannings have played a big part of its recovery but now Peyton is standing in the team’s way.

On the other hand, will the Saints be able to maintain QB Drew Brees thru out the game to create havoc?

A great pass rush is the best way to divert an offense play with a high note. Indy’s bookend DEs Robert Mathis and Dwight Freeney are some of the best tandem of QB artists in the league. Saints RT Jonathan Stinchcomb and LT Jermon Bushrod and are going to be popular to the press for interviews.

Which of the two coaches has the edge?

Jim Caldwell Colts rookie head coach was the right-hand man of Tony Dungy’s in Indy for seven seasons and won Super Bowl XLI. He can be the third rookie coach to win a Super Bowl, to join Don McCafferty (Colts, Super Bowl V) and George Seifert (49ers, Super Bowl XXIV). Sean Payton the Saints coach was part of the Giants’ staff when the Ravens lost in the Super Bowl XXXV and were taught by Bill Parcells with the Cowboys from 2003-05. He’ll be helped by Gregg Williams defensive coordinator, who was in the Titans team during Super Bowl XXXIV where they lost to the Rams, to get the better off Manning.

The Colts still have two weeks to defend themselves. They should do so. They could have gone for a historical 19-0 season in NFL history, that will burry the ’72 Dolphins (17-0) to rest. But they pulled Manning and other key players in the last part of the third quarter while the score was still 15-10 lead in Week 16 against the Jets. The Jets were able to get the lead and win but the Indy nailed it in for its Week 17 loss to the Bills. Caldwell and GM Bill Polian should explain their contention that it is not important to go undefeated.

QB Peyton Manning of the Colts has one Super Bowl already, so he has nothing to worry about being an all-time great who has no Super Bowl ring, but if he does win a second Super Bowl, he will only be second to Tom Brady has three rings. Manning is likely to get the NFL passing records when he retires.

This is another reason to watch the Super Bowl 44.

Super Bowl 44 Dungy Predicts Colts To Win

February 3, 2010 by Rich Webb · 1 Comment

Tony Dungy a former Colts coach and NFL analyst made his fearless Super Bowl 44 prediction on Friday. An interview was conducted by Eyewitness Sports and he was asked what two teams will make it to the Super Bowl 44 on February 7 at South Florida. The answer he gave was that it will be the winner of the game between the Colts’ and San Diego. For him that’s going to play out. San Diego has always given their team a hart time even before. And for him it will be the Colts. He thinks that they are ready to go and they will have a chip on their shoulder from all the debate about 16-0. And about the NFC, he is picking a dark horse. Green Bay is going to win three road games and they are playing good football. They’ve got a blasting defense. They can create destruction and receivers can score points. So for him, it will by Indy versus Green Bay in the Super Bowl, Dungy said.

Since Dungy picked his former team to go all out and win all the way, is he having any second thoughts of giving up his work and going for a second Super Bowl ring. He answered no and he hopes it turns out that way. He will be very happy for the team and for Jim Caldwell. The same things come about in ‘02. This is one of the reasons why he is picking the Colts. He left Tampa and they won the next year. He thinks history will repeat itself, Dungy said. For the Colts to make a comeback to the Super Bowl, they have to win two games in Indianapolis. Dungy believes the Colts will get back for a rematch with the New York Jets. This is the team that stopped their winning streak because of many of the Colts starters with injuries sitting on the bench. They will bring up that exciting rematch and people will again talk about the 16-0 again.

The Colts are having a great start in the games. He is thinking they would win against the Jets, Dungy added. When speaking of the Most Valuable Player this year in the NFL, for Dungy he thinks it will be Peyton Manning. What he was able to do in the first fourteen games and ball throwing and all the fourth quarter rallies. The coach was also asked how this year’s team stacks up versus the Super Bowl team winner. Probably this year they are playing better on defense all through the course of the year. Dungy is impressed with the young players who are stepping up in on defense.

Super Bowl 44 Ads are Going Fast

February 3, 2010 by Rich Webb · Leave a Comment

Buy the Super Bowl 44 ads while it is still available, because slots are selling like hot cake. CBS already sold 95% of its 30-second slots and is cutting deals for the others, this is according to John Bogusz. He is the networks executive vice president of sports sales. There are literally few units left to sell and negotiations are going on right now about the remaining units,” he said. CBS is charging $3 million for the slots, according to Leslie Moonves Chief Executive on December at a financial conference. Advertising Age has anticipated that the network is charging between $2.5 million and $3 million. The clients believe in the value and the reach of TV network and they want their brand to be on the biggest event of the year on network TV,” said Jo Ann Ross CBS head of sales.

CBS executives said the first half has already been sold. It should not be taken for granted that the Super Bowl is a successful way to contact consumers. Last year the volume of the viewers was record high; this was disclosed by the Nielsen Company, with 98.7 million people watching the Pittsburgh Steelers beating the Arizona Cardinals. That was overshadowed in 2008, when 97.5 million football fans viewed the New York Giants’ very shall margin win over the New England Patriots.

What ever anybody says, it is still the biggest TV audience in the world,” John Verret said, Boston University professor of advertising. The airtime price has regularly increased over the years. NBC, the 2009 Super Bowl broadcaster, said the average charge of $3 million for 30-second spots. In 2008 the price was $2.7 million in 2008 and $2.385 million in 2007; this was according to TNS Media Intelligence. The revenue for the ads in 2009 Super Bowl totaled $213 million, TNS said, a considerable increase from $186.3 million in 2008 and $151.5 million two years ago.

Also, the price of airtime devoted to Super Bowl ads has leaped over five years to 45 minutes and 10 seconds in 2009 from 41 minutes and 55 seconds in 2004, said TNS. Who will advertise this year? Anheuser-Busch (BUD) got this years’ most airtime, according to CBS, it has knocked PepsiCo (PEP, Fortune 500) from the top slot and abiding by its status as the only beer brewer for advertising in the Super Bowl. PepsiCo will still advertise its Frito-Lay products, but not the soda; this was said by the broadcaster. Super Bowl 44 Ads are Going Fast and we will see their entire product on game time.

Super Bowl 44 Pro Bowl Changes

January 28, 2010 by Rich Webb · Leave a Comment

New York City host the game, after the league initially voted on 23 March 2005 that delegations on the completion of the planned West Side Stadium that will be built for the New York Jets by 2008. After government officials of the New York state did not approve $300 million for the stadium, the NFL made a decision to revive the bidding for the game’s site. The league re-evaluated the other, ineffective candidates for Super Bowl XLIII. Houston, Atlanta, and Miami on 6 October 2008, South Florida was selected by the league as the host city. With Tampa hosting the Super Bowl XLIII, Super Bowl XLIV marked the third time that successive Super Bowls was played in the same state. Super Bowls II and III were played at the Orange Bowl. Super Bowls XXI and XXII were played in California, XXI at Pasadena’s Rose Bowl Stadium and XXII at San Diego’s Qualcomm Stadium.

Miami will be the first city to host two Super Bowls selected as a National Special Security Event (NSSE). In the realization of the terrorist attacks, last September 11, 2001, every Super Bowl since Super Bowl XXXVI has been chosen as an NSSE. Miami Gardens’ Super Bowl XLI was first Super Bowl designated as an NSSE. This will be the first time the Pro Bowl will be played during the off-week between the Super Bowl and the conference championships. It was announced in December 2008, that in its place of the customary Pro Bowl a week after the Super Bowl, instead, it will be done at the new time in Miami. This is the first time since 1979 that the event will not be played at Aloha Stadium. Super Bowl partakers will not be playing in the Pro Bowl. The league will give conference champions an additional week of rest for the preparation of the Super Bowl. The NFL has made it clear that this may not be a lasting move, but is merely something they wanted to try out and has talked about rotating locations for the Pro Bowl. This move also signify that the game, which otherwise would have been played February 14. Now it will not be competing against the very sensational 2010 NBA All-Star Game, also the 2010 Winter Olympics, second full day of competition and the 52nd running of the Daytona 500. Now you will have no reason not to watch the Super Bowl 44 after its Pro Bowl Changes.

Super Bowl 2010 Grouping For Prospect

January 28, 2010 by Rich Webb · Leave a Comment

The director of community outreach Catherine Minnis, for the South Florida Super Bowl 2010 Host Committee, has worked with small firms for months on buying chance for the coming month’s 44th Super Bowl. Planning has started early. The first agreements for this year’s game were bestowed in April. The North Texas Super Bowl Host Committee has begun conducting training workshops for small business on 2011 bids. In October the first workshop attracted 1,000 attendees.

Each host committee has its own variation on the acquisition process. Interested firms In South Florida were requested to finalize an application that is made up of four-pages that gives a detail of what type of services they present and look into rough details like their bonding and insurance situation. Businesses have to be certified as a minority company or woman-owned company. The prize for getting into those hoops will be a listing in the Business Resource Guide of the South Florida organizing committee, which is translated to big business for a small company. This year, around 540 companies were accommodated it into the guide.

Florist Sher Tannozzini, the owner of Flowers From The Rainflorist that is based in Fort Lauderdale is one of the bidders for a place in this season’s showdown. Two months before the game, some of the contracts are still being determined. Tannozzini lost out on one subcontracting project that she made a bid on, in supplying floral centerpieces; still, she remains in contention for two more.

The NFL opens a large opportunity for me and even if I don’t succeed in any contracts it was worth it, Sher said. The simple participation in the process of bidding has introduced her to related fields in the businesses, like party planning firms and limousine rental. Those contacts have provided new avenues that are non-NFL business for her flower shop.

Tannozzini stated that she was a little bit shy in thinking that if she joined the program, she would suddenly have a lot of people beating down her door for the Super Bowl contracts. That is not the reality; it is much more aggressive than that. The special events business development manager of the NFL, Tisha Ford says that working with local businesses brings a community atmosphere to the Super Bowl. This event is traveling and each region is different and has its own tone, she says. Getting to know a specific local society will help tap into its awesome resources. This is what the Super Bowl 2010 can help do.

Its Colts vs Saints in Suporbowl 44?

Super Bowl 44 Colts fans looking forward to Super Bowl

Playoff fever is getting ready in Indianapolis. While the Colts do not know yet what team they will face in their initial playoff game, a lot of fans are already looking forward to watching the Super Bowl 44. True blue Colts fans held their initial Indianapolis public meeting with regards to the playoff season at the Circle Center Mall. Autographs from the players and a playoff ticket raffle are the used as a lure. Fans were patiently willing to wait in line, even though everybody knows that the first Colts playoff game is still more than a week away. Fans that were there are also imagining the thrill of a Super Bowl appearance in Miami.

Paula Szczepanek a Colts super fan said Oh no, we do not have to go to Miami. But the Colts are. Surely, it would absolutely be worth the trip, Andrew Burrows said. He will not have to think twice about that.

A trip going to the Super Bowl is too costly for almost all the fans. But there are a lot of prepared Web sites with a lot of houses with pictures just waiting to be occupied by the arriving tourists, fans and the general public. If you’ve got a budget of about $1200 to $10,000 a day Florida homeowners will provide you the keys to their wonderful houses over for the Super Bowl weekend. For Jason Patterson, it will be dream come true, he is an avid Colts fan. He does not want to go to the Super Bowl unless the Colts will be playing there. But we are definitely going to be there, he said. On Craig’s list, fans can look for a package that not only includes a place to stay for the weekend, but also a vehicle driver and a game ticket. The price tag for this package is only $3,000 per person.

But another diehard Colts fan with the name of Nikki Gott might be going to the Super Bowl and not having to spend a single penny. She is hoping to, this is what she said. She is taking part of a contest right now. She is representing Indianapolis as the NFL Fandamonium Director. And all she needs to be is one of the top two vote getters on NFL-Monster, a website sponsor. She is now one of the eight finalists of the said contest and a ticket hopeful of the Super Bowl 44.

Update: Congratulations to the New Orleans Saints and Indianapolis Colts who will now meet in the Superbowl XLIV!

January 24, 2010 by Rich Webb · 1 Comment

Football fans will be looking forward to Miami next February when Dolphin Stadium will host both Super Bowl XLIV and the 2010 Pro Bowl. But since those two games are still months from now, fans were treated on Wednesday when the South Florida Super Bowl Host Committee showed the logos for both of the big NFL games. In the Super Bowl 44 logo for, the “L” and the “I” they form a goal post and in the middle a football and on the far left and right there are two stars; that represented the AFC and the NFC. Super Bowl 44 banners and signs will soon be visible all over South Florida. You will see them in the newspapers and in TV very soon and by Christmas they will be shown all over the city as we closer to the Super Bowl season fever, Frank Supovitz NFL Senior Vice President of Special Events said.

Adding to the official presentation of the game logos, a news conference also had new data about the games, activities, ticket sales, and volunteer opportunities. Super Bowl XLIV will commence on 7 February 2010 at the Dolphin Stadium. It will be the 10th time that South Florida is hosting a Super Bowl game which is record-breaking. Pro Bowl 2010 will be played a week earlier the Super Bowl, on 31 January 2010 and also at Dolphin Stadium. It will be the first time after 30 years that the Pro Bowl will not be played in Hawaii. South Florida hosted it last in 1975 at the Orange Bowl. Officially CBS4 is the home of Super Bowl XLIV. Tickets for the Pro Bowl will first be made available to season ticket holders of the Dolphins in July.

There will be no campaign ad Interference for the Super Bowl. The Fox Network will not sell advertising time to a political candidate during the Super Bowl, according to reports published. The game will begin on February 3, two days before the primaries of the important day, Super Tuesday. The industry publication Advertising Age made a report on its web site today that Fox has decided not to sell air time to candidates since it cannot accommodate them all.

Fox lawyers asked the Federal Communications Commission regulations to give an explanation about the company’s decision. Fox comply with all legal regulations with regards to selling time for candidates, including requirements that apply to broadcast like Super Bowl, this was said by a Fox spokesperson told AdAge. Fox can refuse to sell air time in this situation and can use the FCC ruling that turning down candidates is reasonable in unique, broadcasts where equal ad time cannot be given to all candidates, the report said.

Minnesota Vikings vs New Orleans Saints: Can Vikings Win Superbowl 44?

January 19, 2010 by Rich Webb · Leave a Comment

With Super Bowl XLIV or plainly just go back to using 44 in South Florida merely few days away to go, it has never been too early to start reflecting on all the probable matchups, with all their interesting storylines. Taking in the scope of the complete 12-team playoff field, in any case while it lasts, here is a simple sample prediction of the top 10 hoped-for Super pairings. First is Jets vs. Packers, these are the two former Brett Favre’s who will meet in the Super Bowl, but he is not there. Second is Chargers vs. Saints, The Drew Brees Bowl, it will be a battle of the Brees against Philip Rivers, the quarterback who substituted him in San Diego, would be the primary storyline of the game.

Third is the Colts vs. Vikings, Will this be an exhibition matchup? It will be Peyton Manning versus Brett Favre. This may be a journalist item for a real article write up. Fourth is Chargers vs. Cowboys, Wade Phillips was picked up by Jerry Jones in the early 2007 as his head coach and the other choice would have been Norv Turner for the job. Both Phillips and Turner have cached three different NFL teams but have not ever won in a Super Bowl. This will be a Vindication Bowl. Firth is Saints vs. Colts, It is every Manning for himself on the Super Bowl, especially with Peyton playing against Archie, his fathers former team. Sixth Jets vs. Vikings, Favre will face the team he made that 2008 cameo role. Most probably by now the Jets fans have forgiven him for tanking at the season end and in the process getting New York’s head coach fired.

Seventh Jets vs. Eagles, it will be very interesting to see Rex Ryan the New York head coach seeking revenge against the team that fired Buddy Ryan his father after being winless for three straight playoff trips from 1988-90. Eight is Saints vs. Patriots, the Saints were blown out in Week 12 and surely the Patriots would love to try again and stop the team that beat them in the Superdome. NIneth is Ravens vs. Eagles, a great match up between coaches, the mentor and the protégé. It will be Coach Andy Reid against John Harbaugh his former assistant in the Eagles. Last is Colts vs. Cowboys, this will be a remake of the Blooper Bowl, Super Bowl V which should be forgotten, this is a pairing that makes the top list of Super Bowls worst-played. Now you can make a pick on the Super Bowl 44 Matchups.
